Odile the Black Swan

Intro
Backstory

Keywords:

The Silent Witch, the Infested Ballerina, the Humming Soprano, the Night Queen. Noble, commanding, fearless, dreadful, distant, mysterious, enigmatic. Loves the number 7.

Personality:

If we were to define her with one word, it would be "enigma." At first glance, she looks aggressive, dreadful, and hostile. If you observe carefully, however, you will realize she is harmless as long as you are diligent about following some simple rules, like not interrupting her or disturbing her frequent trance states. Still, she can indeed get quite dreadful and cruel when feeling threatened.

She never speaks, just hymns and hums from time to time. She usually ignores the people around her and does not get involved in discussions. And generally, it is for the better of those around her. Because if her attention is on you, she is either analyzing you for an unknown reason or is about to shred you to pieces. On some rare occasions, of course, it is because she is genuinely interested. That is, if she finds something worthy of her awareness or miraculously thinks you are spectacular enough to obtain her precious attention for a while.

She is usually quite distant and defensive and will not allow people to come near her. The only exception is Rumbrogon. Even Iset the Mother pays attention not to make her feel uncomfortable by approaching too closely, at least without a clear (albeit not observable by the others) approval from Odile.

Loves:

Odile is quite an enigmatic character; it is not precisely known in detail what she loves. However, despite being rather secretive at all times, Odile never tries to hide her interest in alien life form research, deep space exploration, classic art and especially opera and ballet, music boxes, and interestingly various human cultures and their modern fashions. It is frequently observed that she loves playing with the Infestation spores by molding them into shapes (swan feather-like forms seem to be her favorite) and staring into the vastness of space during night hours if she is on a planet, or from dark corners or rooms when she is on a space station or ship.

Hates:

We do not know what she hates exactly, but it is clear that she does not like disrespectful people and can easily become hostile when subjected to repetitive rude behavior. She seems to be in constant meditation or self-hypnosis; distracting her is usually a bad idea. You can tell if she is in a trance by observing her breathing pace. Rapid breathing means danger, do not even consider going near her.

She was a famous mezzo-soprano living in outer colonies. Sometimes, she even performed as a ballerina, needles to say she was a very well respected and beloved artist.

Decades ago, an entire sector was annihilated by the Infestation, including the colony where she resided. Like the tens of millions of people in these colonies, the Infestation got her too.

Unlike the rest, however, she did not turn into a body extension of the deadly fungus. By some miracle, she kept her consciousness and free will. Considering the fatality rate, surviving an Infestation infection is equivalent to simultaneously winning all lotteries in the entire galaxy. Yet, there was a cost. The new Infested Odile is very different from her past self. We do not know her human name, but Odile is more potent, capable, enigmatic, dark, and powerful than her former self.

Only a few infested individuals got to keep their consciousness and independence from the main spore colonies. Almost always, Infested creatures turn into mind-controlled defenders and servants of the colonies. Among the known few, Odile is the only Infested self-aware human. During the Infestation catastrophe, she had to witness and endure the demise of all her loved ones, fans, and colleagues. She lived in the Infested ashes of the human colony for a long time. We do not know what happened after and how she ended up on another planet and found Rumbrogon. It seems they rescued each other multiple times, and Rumbrogon gradually became entangled and charmed by her dark beauty and commanding personality. Daeva found them on the exoplanet GJ 273 b, orbiting the red dwarf star Luyten.

Interestingly, there were a lot of infested creatures, even a matriarch marajuaronesis monster. The planet was not infected by the Infestation spores.

Odile and Rumbrogon joined Daeva and left the planet. How Daeva convinced them and what was the Infested duo's purpose in joining the Archangel is a mystery. They ended up on Kepler-1649c, the frozen exoplanet orbiting within the habitable zone of the red dwarf star Kepler-1649. There was a crucial reason for them to travel there. They knew one of Iset the Mother's main Angel Cores was there in a dormant state. Iset had been missing for the last two centuries. Daeva was relentlessly searching planets to find the Goddess and her resting place. And finally, she did.

By pure coincidence, Daeva, Odile, and Rumbrogon stumbled upon Phoenix, Aurora, and Xander on the planet and killed all of them after a brief conflict. Right after the skirmish, Iset awakened from her long sleep, and Odile and her allies decided to flee. However, the Goddess knew what had transpired, and the consequences followed quickly. Ultimately the events led to Odile moving into Iset's mothership Osiris, joining the forced alliance of many spectacular heroes. To what end? That's yet to be seen.

“She sadly hymns as if singing in an alien language. You are immediately filled with instant relief and pain, conflicting and confronting, all simultaneously.”

Who wouldn’t want a witch with enigmatic Aisar talents in their party? No sane person should actually, given how dangerous and unpredictable such a powerful Infested lady can be.

Yet, events unfolded so that Odile found her way to Osiris, Iset’s mothership, with the Goddess ordering you to include her in your party. Odile can become a spectacular tool of mass destruction or an unexpectedly strategic support unit thanks to her field manipulation skills. Therefore, it seems, Iset has her reasons to keep her around.
