PHOENIX

Intro
Backstory

Keywords:

Leader, survivor, loyal, funny, revenant, determined, fire, pilot, captain, commando, the last born son, the hybrid, unyielding warrior.

Personality:

Phoenix is a natural-born leader. He can never give up, never lose hope, and never accept defeat. He can endure anything to survive and is loyal to his friends and allies. Combined with his determined character, all this makes him an undefeatable leader. He was also a top-tier military pilot. Maybe these were why Iset decided to revive him, save his friends, and assign him as the commander of the Osiris ship.

Phoenix was a bit of an idealist when he was young, but the things he saw during his service to the corporations (when he was a human military pilot) changed him a lot. When he met Aurora, they became lovers quickly, and Aurora's partially nihilistic worldview affected Phoenix. After losing their home in deep space colonies to the Infestation, and they and their trustworthy friend and mentor Xander were forced to become scavengers to survive, he became even more of a "don't give a f*ck, live life to the max" type of person.

Loves:

Adventure, piloting, and exploring always inspire and excite him. Chasing glory, defeating enemies, helping allies, and refusing to yield are all life's greatest joys.

He tries to enjoy his life, drinking and partying, and these are likely the impact of Aurora on Phoenix's personality.

History, digital games, inspiring and making people laugh also give him much happiness. He adores ships, especially if they are state-of-the-art, they are like toys for him, and he can spend hours on them.

All in all, what he loves the most has an obvious answer: Making Aurora happy.

Hates:

He both hates and fears the Infestation. He is not friendly with the corporations either, but he also refuses to hate all of them outright. He is aware not all corporations are the same and that not all people working for the corporations are evil.

He despises fanatics, beliefs, prejudices, and racism. He likes to mock the mainstream galactic media. He is resentful of all forms of modern salary slavery. He considers advanced AIs sentient beings, so he is sympathetic to the "It is a she!" movement.*

He does not like pessimists and naysayers, as well.

*A famous movement, popular among youngsters, especially in Asian territories that defends the "rights" of synths. For them, AI beings are sentient and should have equal rights with humans. The movement became a popular trend after a debate between a famous female influencer and zealots from The Church of Apocalypse (a religious group) went viral in former Korea. During the debate, the zealots insisted that the influencer's synth had no soul and no right to behave like a human. For them, it was a great sin and despicable action. Things escalated quickly, and the group beat the girl, knocked her unconscious, and then burned her alive. She was screaming, "it is a she!" despite being engulfed by the flames. She was trying to at least save the synth, which was being dismembered in front of her eyes. The brutal killing, which was live streamed, created a lot of hatred and a massive social reaction globally afterward.

He has Nordic genetic ancestry, possibly from former Norway. However, he was raised on Nexus, joined the military, and ventured into deep space. He's never been to Norway.

Throughout his life as an Asteria employee, he mainly dealt with people with an American accent. He also served under the Celtic Triquetra and the Red Syndicate, where he met Aurora. When he was human, he could fluently speak English, Dansk, Norse, and some crude Russian. Now he can understand and speak any language, a Neo-human perk.
Back in his human days, his primary motivation was to become a military pilot, which was not an easy task for ordinary humans. These jobs were mainly reserved for eugenic pilots. However, he never gave up and achieved his dreams. He was scouted by Asteria, one of the biggest corporations on Earth. Later, he was hired by the Celtic Triquetra, and two years later, he was sold to Lilac Crocus with his entire squadron. Lilac Crocus wanted to use him as a commercial pilot, which he refused. He then made a bold move and resigned, effectively becoming a "ronin." In military jargon, a ronin is someone who is ex-military and doesn't have a corporation contract. Such people mostly work for shady organizations and crimelords, slavers or pirates, etc. A couple of weeks later, right after he had spent all his savings and was looking for freelance contracts, he saw a job posting that would change his life forever. Hoshi Ryu, another giant corporation, was looking for a top-tier military pilot for a highly dangerous mission, the extermination of space pirates terrorizing their deep space colonies. When he checked the details, he saw Zarya Aurora Molnija was among the crew. He applied without hesitation.

Initially rejected because his references were incomplete, he begged his boss from Lilac Crocus to give him a reference so he could re-apply. But since he had resigned from the company, his former boss couldn't give him the reference he needed. Desperate to take the job, he asked for the help of a hacker group. He did not have enough coins to hire them but had top secret military information on two giant corporations, which was worth much more than money. It was a risky trade, but Phoenix took it and got his references illegally. He applied again on the last day, successfully passed the interview, and got the job.

Before the mission began, he got a "request" from the hacker group. They kindly asked him to smuggle some friends of theirs onto the ship and help them escape to deep space colonies. To Phoenix's shock, these "friends" were Neo-humans!

Phoenix lost all memory of what happened afterward. He remembers Aurora, leaving the service of corporations along with Xander Aidan, settling into outer colonies, running from the Infestation, scavenging to survive, and his team's encounter with Daeva. All are pretty fragmented memory puzzle pieces, a side effect of the process of transcendence, as becoming a Neo-human requires an almost absolute memory wipeout.

After being killed by Daeva, Phoenix was saved by Iset the Mother and evolved into a Neo-human. Now, Many call him the last born. He is tasked with leading a very powerful and sophisticated team for reasons unbeknownst to him. He must find a way to understand the motivations of the Goddess, deal with the aftermath of the painful events he and his old allies Aurora and Xander had to suffer, gain the respect of his team and survive the dark and unforgiving universe of Angelic. Pretty simple, right?

“I will endure. I will adapt. I will rise!”

They often call Phoenix “the fire revenant” for a good reason. He has returned from the dead, and his new self is full of inner fire. Literally.

His most unique aspect in combat is the ability to adapt to almost any situation. Such a fitting talent set for a character like him! Iset gifted him a bleeding-edge pulse rifle, “Hydra,” that can shapeshift and adjust the damage type on the fly. Combined with the integrated flame throwers on his wrists, he is pretty well equipped for both ranged and close quarter combat.
